Presentation: "Apprenticing to Mastery"
Time:
Thursday 13:45 - 14:45
Location:
Stanford
Abstract: Formal software apprenticeship is an approach to developing skilled software developers in use by companies like Obtiva and 8th Light. Dave Hoover and Paul Pagel will discuss the patterns of behavior they've observed in successful apprenticeships over the past several years, focusing specifically on apprenticeships in which the developer aspired to mastery. These apprenticeships are unique in many respects and the behavioral patterns are applicable both inside and outside formal software apprenticeships. Dave is co-author of O'Reilly's upcoming book 'Apprenticeship Patterns: Guidance for the Aspiring Software Craftsman'.
